I give Elon Musk a lot of crap (and I’m sure it bothers him…that’s so Elon). Anyway, this work from Tesla on a new ventilator using their car parts is really cool. I especially liked the attention to the UI.

The final part of the equation is getting every kid to have a device. There are about 80k kids in Baltimore City. To give every kid a decent Chromebook device would require a one time spend of about $40M and then about $10M a year on technology refresh and maintenance.

The next part of the equation is internet as a utility. Baltimore could do this and there are groups trying to make it happen yet internet service providers try and fight municipal internet every step of the way.

I hope every school around the country requires their teachers to create one entirely online day per month that can be executed in the classroom as a kind of emergency drill for keeping all kids home.
This means prof dev around online tools and pedagogy.

For example, my 11yo’s teacher has posted assignments in several places because no one has shown her how to use g classroom.
The #UX is insanely bad for an 8yo who expects things to be presented newest on the bottom like making a list instead of the twitter-like newest on top.

I am extremely disappointed in @BaltCitySchools central administration’s response to school closings. On day one, resource teachers and district IT people should have been devising a defined set of tools with instructions for teachers with best practices.
